The Employment Unit consists of 18 full time solicitors plus their dedicated support staff. Our clients range from small businesses to very large utility companies, listed public companies, airlines, media companies and a significant number of educational establishments.

We provide our clients with practical advice to find solutions to their problems – much more than just a recital of the law! We deal with both contentious and non contentious areas of employment and examples of our work include:

  • Documentation – we draft and review contracts, policies, consultancy agreements, service agreements and handbooks and advise on their complementation.
  • Day to day advice – we advise our clients on all employment related matters including for example sickness and absence management, disciplinary and grievance issues, performance management, redundancies and restructures.
  • Benefits, pensions and tax incentives - we advise on employee bonus schemes and share options, as well as liaising closely with our Pensions Department on that complex area of law. We are also able to help with flexible benefit packages.
  • Corporate Support – we advise on the employment aspects of corporate transactions, including an in depth understanding of TUPE. • Outsourcing – we act for a number of clients who regularly deal with outsourcing issues and have developed a wealth of experience in this complex area of TUPE.
  • Tribunals – we deal with around 150 Tribunal matters each year involving unfair dismissal, discrimination claims, TUPE issues and breach of contract. We also deal with appeals to the Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT) and Court of Appeal.
  • Courts – we deal with High Court matters relating to breach of contract and enforcement or defence of restrictive covenant type claims. Two members of the Employment Unit have higher rights of audience.
