Divorce, separation & civil partnerships

When a relationship breaks down, it can be a confusing and emotional time. It touches every area of your life - your family, children, finances, home and business. At Thomas Eggar LLP, we have a specialist team of family lawyers who can advise and assist you.

We adopt a professional yet sensitive approach, offering you practical legal advice to help you make the best decisions for you and your family. All of our family solicitors are members of Resolution, a national association of family lawyers which promotes dealing with matters in a non-confrontational manner. We also offer mediation and collaborative family law as an alternative approach to family dispute resolution.

We advise on all aspects of divorce, nullity and dissolution proceedings, including the division of the family assets. We will help you to agree matters with your ex-partner through discussion and negotiation. In some cases the court process is a useful format in which to negotiate an agreement and we will support and represent you within court proceedings if appropriate.

If you wish to separate but not to divorce at this stage, we can advise you in relation to the preparation of a Separation Agreement.

If there are children involved, you will be considering their future living and care arrangements. Our family team can advise you on a full range of children's issues.

We recognise that no two cases are alike and we will respond to your own particular situation. We are experienced in dealing with a broad range of cases to include those with substantial assets; both in the UK and abroad.

By drawing on expertise from every area of our firm, we can offer you practical advice on related issues such as tax planning, Wills & trusts, business matters, property and pensions.

Our services include advice on:-

  • Divorce/Nullity proceedings
  • Dissolution of civil partnerships
  • The division of the family assets upon divorce/dissolution
  • Deeds of separation
  • Future arrangements for your children.

Wills

It is always advisable to review or make a new Will at those times in your life when your circumstances change. This is particularly so when you enter into a new relationship or end an existing one. A divorce will render certain parts of your Will unenforceable so it is imperative you have a replacement Will drawn up. We have a specialist team of private client lawyers who would be happy to advise you in this regard.
